About Rila Bakery & Cafe

Rila Bakery & Cafe at 7600 196th St SW #500, Lynnwood, WA 98036 is more than just a local cafe—it’s a comforting corner for coffee lovers, pastry hunters, and anyone seeking a warm, familiar bite in the heart of Washington.

Where to find Rila Bakery & Cafe in Lynnwood and why people keep coming back

There’s a certain kind of charm tucked quietly inside the shopping complex off 196th Street. That’s where Rila Bakery & Cafe quietly welcomes its regulars and newcomers alike with its scent of freshly baked bread, roasted coffee, and simmering soups. Located just minutes away from Alderwood Mall, the cafe’s spot isn’t just convenient—it feels like a lucky find.

Locals who frequent Rila often talk about its cozy interior, the friendly team behind the counter, and the satisfying feeling of walking in after a long day. Whether you’re meeting a friend, grabbing a solo lunch, or just popping by for your daily latte, there’s an ease to this place that big-chain cafes can’t replicate.

The reviews speak volumes. From Yelp to Google, diners consistently mention two things: the heartwarming flavors and the people who make them. It’s not rare to see baristas greeting customers by name, remembering favorite orders, and slipping in a kind word or two.

And of course, there’s the menu—but we’ll get to that in a minute.

What makes the experience at Rila Bakery & Cafe so personal

It’s one thing to serve good food. It’s another to build a place where people want to stay.

At Rila Bakery & Cafe, the experience begins the moment you open the door. The décor is modest but thoughtful: wood furniture, chalkboard specials, a pastry display that always seems freshly stocked. It’s a place that doesn’t try too hard because it doesn’t need to.

The bakery items—from buttery croissants to rich, dense banana bread—are baked on site and rotate seasonally. I had the chance to chat with a local customer, Maria, who’s been visiting since 2019. Her favorite? The almond croissant, paired with a medium oat milk cappuccino. “It’s not just the food,” she shared. “It’s the quiet mornings here. It feels like mine.”

This level of consistency and familiarity builds loyalty. The staff, many of whom have worked at Rila for years, offer not just service but small, daily interactions that create a sense of community. That’s what makes the cafe feel like a second living room for so many.

Let’s talk about the food menu and what you absolutely shouldn't miss

The menu at Rila Bakery & Cafe might look simple at first glance—but dig in and you’ll find layers of flavor and careful attention to detail. It leans into comforting favorites while still offering fresh surprises.

Breakfast lovers can start their day with a breakfast sandwich made with pillowy housemade bread, scrambled eggs, and melted cheese. Add avocado or bacon, and you’ve got a morning boost that actually tastes like something your friend made just for you.

Their soups and sandwiches are no slouch either. The tomato basil soup served with grilled cheese is a local legend—especially during rainy Washington afternoons. On my visit, I tried the turkey pesto sandwich. The turkey was thick-sliced, the pesto fresh, and the bread just crisp enough on the outside. It came with a side salad that didn’t feel like an afterthought.

Vegetarians and light eaters aren’t left out. The quiche, filled with spinach, cheese, and egg custard, melts in your mouth. And their seasonal salads often come with house dressings, pickled vegetables, or toasted seeds for crunch.

Of course, no trip to Rila is complete without something sweet. The dessert case offers a rotating mix of carrot cake, brownies, fruit bars, and classic cookies. The lemon tart is one of their standout items—tangy, not too sweet, and with a buttery crust that holds its shape perfectly.

To drink, there’s coffee, tea, and seasonal beverages. Their lattes are smooth, never bitter, and pair beautifully with a cinnamon roll or pain au chocolat. Chai lovers will appreciate the house-made chai blend, with just the right amount of spice.

Exploring the local love: how customers describe Rila Bakery & Cafe

The connection between Rila Bakery & Cafe and the Lynnwood community runs deep. Online reviews often reflect not just satisfaction, but affection. Customers use words like cozy, welcoming, and underrated gem when describing their visits.

One reviewer wrote, “Rila isn’t just a cafe—it’s the kind of place that remembers you had a rough week and adds a smile to your coffee.” Another shared how they discovered Rila while apartment hunting in the area and have returned every weekend since.

Parents come with kids after soccer practice. Seniors bring books and sit by the window. Students stop in to work on laptops in the quieter corners. The cafe serves as a neutral hub for all kinds of people—and that inclusiveness shows in how the space is used, how the staff interacts, and even how the menu caters to different preferences.

It’s rare to find a spot that balances quality, comfort, and character so effortlessly.

Why Rila’s location matters more than you think

Being in Lynnwood, Rila Bakery & Cafe sits at a crossroads of suburban life, shopping hubs, and small businesses. It’s close enough to the 196th Street exit, making it a strategic stop for commuters heading toward Seattle or Edmonds. Yet it feels far removed from the rush, tucked neatly among local salons, independent stores, and residential areas.

This accessibility is key. There’s plenty of parking, outdoor seating when the weather allows, and a constant stream of both foot traffic and regulars. For those new to the area, stumbling upon Rila can feel like uncovering a hidden neighborhood secret.

Local food bloggers and community guides have started to take notice too. In fact, several have listed Rila on their “Top Cafes in Lynnwood” lists over the past few years, citing its consistent quality and unique, handcrafted items.

And it’s not just word of mouth. Rila’s loyal customers often bring their friends along or recommend it in community Facebook groups. It’s this kind of organic growth—built on trust and experience—that keeps the cafe thriving.

A few final bites about what makes this place special

Every neighborhood has its beloved spots. Rila Bakery & Cafe happens to be Lynnwood’s.

What sets it apart isn’t just the bread baked daily, the latte art, or even the hearty soups. It’s the fact that everything feels intentional. From the menu curation to how the staff remembers allergies and preferences, it’s clear this cafe is run with care.

For those who value freshness, human connection, and the kind of warmth that goes beyond temperature, Rila Bakery & Cafe delivers. Whether you’re a regular in the area or just passing through, make the time to visit. There’s something deeply satisfying about discovering a place that still believes in the power of small comforts done right.

  • “ Love the cozy, calm vibes of this place and the friendly, patient staff. I have a particular food allergy and they've always been accommodating with double checking whether anything I'm buying has that ingredient in it (because I've learned the hard way when I was younger that it can appear in even the most unexpected and unlikely foods :S - better safe than sorry!) Their pastries are delicious - my favorites so far are their almond and pistachio croissants (not the flat ones, have yet to try those). The filling inside is sooooo good, and it's not cloyingly sweet either. I also like the mushroom gruyere, very flaky and savory. I haven't been too adventurous with my coffee choices but their iced lattes have never disappointed me. And yes, as others have pointed out typical with bakeries, if you're not going in the morning, you'll probably have fewer options to pick from with the more popular choices sold out for the day by then, even on a weekday. ”

  • “ highly recommend the twice-baked pistachio croissant and the smoked salmon croissant. they were 7 each. i went right when they opened and there was a lot to choose from. but i’ve also been an hour before they closed and they sold out on pretty much everything. i’d come back to try more pastries and the drinks. ”

  • “ I just recently discovered this wonderful place and I'll definitely be a repeat customer. Their pastries and breakfast sandwiches are some of the best I've ever experienced! Super cool, friendly staff too. I started referring friends after my first visit! It's hard to choose a favorite, but I'd say the twice baked pistachio croissant, the thin, chocolate dipped croissant, and the strawberry scone are my top choices so far. The ferry sandwich is delicious, as is the mushroom gruyere croissant, if you're looking for something more savory. Full marks to a great new favorite! ”

  • “ Rila Bakery is that whole in the wall gem. Beautiful croissants that are flaky, layers upon layers, buttery and toasted, but so light you'll forget you just ate 3 of them in a row. The sandwiches are my go-to. Made with absolute care and perfectly executed to be so balanced. The workers are here are angels as well. I come around 7-7:30 in the mornings, at least once a week if not more. They are worth going out of the way to give them a try. ”

  • “ This bakery seems to specialize in croissants but they also have some unique items like flat croissants and Korean baked goods. We had the almond croissant and pistachio croissant and Portuguese egg tart which were all crunchy and flaky and warm like they should be. ”

    Eric Chang
  • “ Lovely place. The pastries were excellent (great lamination in the croissants). The staff was super friendly and paid great attention to detail. The decoration is inviting and we felt comfortable enjoying our order. ”

    Mariana Smit Vega Garcia
  • “ Beautiful coffee shop with friendly service. Tried the pistachio croissant and it’s one of the best croissants I’ve ever had. ”

  • “ I attended the 1st Seattle Best Croissant & Baguette Competition on 3/23/25 and was struck by the accomplished baking skill of the patissier at Rila Bakery & Cafe. The fact that the patissier worked in a restaurant but turned to pastry to develop a business is ASTONISHING. Her mushroom croissant and the salmon croissant as well as the pistachio croissant were delicious! The fresh ingredients from the Seattle are show in the croissant taste. The event showcased a few other pastries and their baguette . But I was so struck by the savory croissants, I kept coming back to their table. Delicious! Lucky you in Lynwood area to have Rila Bakery & Cafe easily available to you! ”
